The first thing if your washing machine does not turn on is to check to make sure it is plugged in and that the circuit breakers did not flip off. Broken timers, thermal fuses, or door latches are common reasons a washer will not turn on. When it does not agitate, there is a problem with agitator cogs, the drive belt, a coupler, thermal fuse, or a bad transmission.
